Monoculture reveals a photograph behind the type of a captive thylacine taken in Regents Park Zoo, London 1917, by photographer and illustrator Lilian Medland (1880-1955).

Conflict with sheep farmers in Tasmania decimated the thylacine population, while their increasing rarity fuelled their demand in international wildlife trade, ensuring their demise. There are 750 thylacines in museum collections worldwide, many came from the live exhibit market.
