Description

Photomontage screenprint, acrylic on Fabriano Rosaspina printmaking paper 285gsm, 50 x 70cm

The photo of the thylacine is placed in the foreground of an etching detail from the Picturesque Atlas of Australia 1888. The original photo was taken in Regents Park Zoo, London 1917, by photographer and illustrator Lilian Medland (1880-1955).

Conflict with sheep farmers in Tasmania decimated the thylacine population, while their increasing rarity fuelled their demand in international wildlife trade, ensuring their demise. There are 750 thylacines in museum collections worldwide, many came from the live exhibit market.

If the TiGRR lab in Melbourne working on the de-extinction of the thylacine is successful, how would Australia accommodate and protect its apex predator today?
